This site is for travellers to the historic city of Malacca or Melaka. It provides general information about the state of Malacca and its numerous tourists objects, how to get there and other relevant information to make your visit a memorable one ! Malacca was founded by Parameswara, a Sumatran prince, in 1396, Parameswara later embraced Islam and he was known as Sultan Iskandar Shah. And that was the begining of the Malay Sultanate. Malacca came under Portuguese rule in 1511 for almost 130 years and later by the Dutch for 154 years. The last sultan of Malacca was Sultan Mahmud Shah. The first British to knock on Malacca's door was in 1795 but surrenderd it later to the Dutch again in 1818. However in 1824 via the Anglo-Dutch Treaty, Malacca was again back in British hands until August 1957 where Malacca gained its independence together with the rest of the Malay States.Such was the colourful history of Malacca. And today one can still see the legacies left behind by Malacca's past masters...and these being manifested in her people, culture, food, architecture and traditions. They said, everything in present Malaysia, begins here.....enjoy your stay in Melaka.
